Write a report to the editor of a newspaper on the water crisis in Pakistan as a Social Worker

Date: March 9, 2010

To,

The Editor,
The Dwan.
Lahore.

From: A social worker

Subject: Water crisis in Pakistan.

Introduction:

As a social worker, I am always concerned about the welfare of my countrymen. I am greatly worried at the water shortage which we are going to face in near future. Without water, life in the world is impossible. It is essential for the life and survival of human beings, birds, beasts, plants and trees. Without it, we cannot conceive of life on earth.

Misuse of water:

It is very sad that we have never paid any attention to this great gift of God. There are many areas in Pakistan where we do not get water even for drinking purpose.

Sources of getting water:

The sources of getting water are very few and limited. Water is present in the subsoil of the earth. It is brought to earth by the operation of tube wells and electric motors. The other sources of water are rivers, lakes and streams. They are quite doubtful. Most of our rivers have their origin in occupied Kashmir. India controls there rivers. India, being a sworn enemy of Pakistan has minimized the flow of water in these rivers. India has flouted the Water Treaty, known as Indus Basin Treaty. The result is that our rivers and canals have become dry and the production of crops has suffered a great loss.

Suggestion:

I suggest the following measures to overcome the shortage of water.

  1. A large number of dams should be built on different parts of canals and rivers. In this way, we can store and preserve our surplus water and use it for producing electricity and cultivation.
  2. India must be told to release water to the rivers according to the Indus Basin Treaty. Social and political pressure should be exercised on her to ease the situation. The case should be taken to the World Court, in case it, does not yield to pressure.

Signed

A.B.C (Social Worker)
